10 Things Nintendo Wants You To Forget About Mario

8. Technology, Space And Time Inconsistencies

The Mario universe seems to mimic different periods of human history at different times in a rather muddled fashion. In the platformers, we see Mario cross fairly barren lands on foot which are populated mostly by castles. Yet, In his free time Mario has access to tennis and golf facilities, go karts, cars, space travel and commercial airlines. In several kart tracks, fully developed urban cities such as Mushroom City can be seen which seem to have industrial buildings, roads, public transport and other necessities of modern society. When you consider all of these games to take place in the same universe, it's hard to not question how many contrasting environments, landscapes and terrains can exist in the same world. If we're to assume Mario Kart takes place in our world, why would there a track called Mushroom City which would obviously be situated in the Mushroom Kingdom. This is all to be taken with a pinch of salt as most games mentioned can be dismissed as spin-offs or as non-canon, but the wild inconsistencies of space, time and technology in Mario games are best left untouched, or so Nintendo would have you think.
