10 Things Nintendo Wants You To Forget About Mario

6. Supernatural Occurrences

While a Boo isn't outright called a ghost in Mario games, it's generally accepted that they are ghosts, Goombella's tattle adds to this clarifying that the Boo Igor 'was probably a merchant before he became a Boo', which clearly implies that he was once living. The question worth asking is why are there so many Boos in the Mario universe and why do they always seem to antagonize Mario himself. While there's not much to imply Mario has done something to directly offend or create the Boos, there are a few supernatural Easter eggs in the Mario franchise that could suggest the plumber is haunted. In Super Mario Galaxy 2, if switched to first person view in Shiverburn Galaxy whilst on the mission 'Prince Pikante's Peppery Mood', three shadowy figures can be seen in the sky which stare at Mario ominously. You can't interact with these figures in any way even if you hack the game's data. However, a user who did hack the game's data discovered that the file for these shadowy figures is named 'Hell Valley Sky Tree', an area which doesn't exist nor does it sound like a level that would ever be included in a modern Mario game. No explanation for this exists from Nintendo, nor are we likely to ever get one. Similar occurrences can also be found in worlds 4-4 and 8-4 of Super Mario 3D World. While it's most likely a programmer having some fun, the ghostly figures are some of the scariest and mysterious easter eggs in recent gaming history.
