10 Things No One Wants To Admit About Red Dead Redemption 2
10. Heists Are A Huge Step Back From GTA V
While the Red Dead franchise is a very different beast from Grand Theft Auto - and certainly not "GTA with horses" - it's pretty disappointing how a much-loved element of GTA V has been completely excised from RDR2 despite being perfectly suited to its style and tone.
GTA V's story mission heists were near-universally praised for their elaborate nature, allowing the player choose how to tackle a job and also requiring them to prepare resources beforehand. They felt epic, but in the world of RDR2, the big-scale bank and train robberies sadly feel pretty rushed and one-note by comparison.
For the most part there aren't any branching mission possibilities in heists, and without prelude missions before each robbery, they end up feeling a little too fast-moving for their own good (running counter to the general pace of the game).
Nobody's saying RDR2 had to just dispassionately recycle GTA V's most successful elements - the return to a single protagonist, for instance, is no shame whatsoever - but given how brilliantly Rockstar pulled this off last time, it's extremely disappointing that RDR2's focal set-pieces feel so comparatively ordinary.
