10 Things Nobody Wants To Admit About Dark Souls 3
9. Poor NG+
Say what you will about the quality of Dark Souls 2, there were a whole host of things that the game did to improve the series. From making PVP work mechanically to some extent and refining the arenas and balancing for the online invasions to offering up soul vessels to revamp your character. The game did a lot right and one of the major things that it made brilliant, was NG+.
Instead of just giving enemies high HP and attack stats, the game introduced red phantom enemies, new harder versions of enemies that had new spawn positions, making the game fresh and much harder. Not to mention making NG+ worth playing! So why would Dark Souls 3 get rid of a system that worked brilliantly and had fans raving about it. It was one of the points that fans could agree was great about DS2, so why take it out in the sequel.
Undoubtedly due to time constraints and the game being rushed, the lack of a worthwhile NG+ is extremely noticeable, especially in the wake of the previous game. Being one of the most disappointing things about the game, the developers threw salt on the wound, when It turned out NG+ wasn’t even much more difficult than the base game.
With a system in place in the previous games that worked and was ingenious, not having it the sequel felt lazy and the void was noticed. All we had was some +1 rings and that was it. All you had to do was run NG+ once for the trophy and never had to touch it again! Quality game development!
