10 Things Nobody Wants To Admit About Dark Souls 3
5. Excessive Bonfires
Whilst an improvement on the completely unnecessary number of bonfires in DS2, DS3 still suffers greatly from giving players bonfires that are entirely null and void. Admittedly it is a far lessened problem than in DS2, but it is still an incredibly annoying problem.
Bonfires are key to the entire functioning of the game, acting as safe havens and checkpoints for the player. This means that ensuring they are in the right place is incredibly important. And Dark Souls 3 has a habit of giving the player bonfires in quick succession. Beat a boss? Have a bonfire? Found an elevator? Have a bonfire. Turned a corner? Have a bonfire.
Whilst maybe a little over-exaggerated, the game gives out bonfires left, right and centre with them appearing to come from nowhere. Going from the dancer to the next bonfire is just a few steps, almost trivialising the bonfire given too you after you beat the boss. The problem could be solved simply by removing the need for every boss to have a bonfire after they are defeated.
You know it’s a problem when you can see the previous bonfire twenty feet away from the one you just discovered. Cough… Grand Archives… Cough…
