3. Essential Character Dialogue Is Totally Missable
The question of whether a game should restrict story or otherwise essential elements of its narrative is one that'll rage on for some time to come. Whilst the likes of Dark Souls and recent indie gem Hyper Light Drifter respectively give you minimal setup or rely on the game's mechanics to transmit what you're supposed to be doing, some of Final Fantasy XV's most essential character dialogue - outside the Brotherhood anime - is completely missable.
And I do mean completely. It wasn't until I'd finished the game and was randomly time-warping back to Duscae for a spot of post-game exploration that a random stay at a hotel triggered a cutscene with Prompto pouring his heart out as to how much he idolised Noct as a kid, and why he wanted to be his friend.
Such a scene would've lent far more weight to both the utterly ridiculous "Prompto is a demon lab rat"/"Prompto just fell off the train and you need to go get him" moments, but alas, it came after the very end.
Speaking of those scenes...
