10 Things Sega Wants You To Forget About Sonic The Hedgehog

10. Sonic SatAM - That It Ever Existed

Sega Sega

Of all the TV shows based around Sonic, Sonic SatAM proved the most inconvenient for Sega going forward. It was the first piece of media to try and push Sonic in a much darker direction, and did so very early on in the character's life-span. The general plot was that Sonic and his friends had formed a group called the freedom fighters, who were trying to prevent the occupation of the planet Mobius by Doctor Robotnik. Is this a sci-fi B-movie? Or a children's Saturday morning TV show?

In many ways, the planet depicted is dark, grim and dystopian - a massive departure from the bright colors of the Sonic games and the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog (another TV show airing in the same period). Not only that, but the writers of the TV show had brought in several characters who weren't in the canon from the games, which lead to a confusing story-line separation that didn't relate to kids who were fans of the games. Sonic SatAM was a messy adaptation of the franchise that's best left forgotten, but ultimately, it wasn't too important.
