Most of the time, an easter egg, an unlockable or a secret is usually an innocent thing made to reward the gamer for finding something hidden. However, this wasn't exactly the case with the secret images in the sound test mode for the Sonic CD. After using the button input to unlock the hidden sound test mode on the game's menu, the player could access certain images with certain track combinations. For example, one is an image of Sonic as an anime character with the text saying 'you are cool', in Japanese. Some were fairly harmless, but the image above greatly disturbed users who found it.

Upon enteringFM46, PCM12, DA25, the screen would show the image above with unsettling game music, at least in the U.S version. The image reads 'fun is infinite with Sega', with the illustration signed by 'Majin'. Majin is often likened to the English words devil or demon, but many believe this to simply be a nickname from one of the game's art designers. Others thought that the unsettling music, disturbing humanoid drawing of Sonic and use of the world majin implied satanic or demonic messages. This image is especially confusing in the U.S version, as the text was completely untranslated.

While the obscurity of the sound test mode on the Sega CD image mean't the image wasn't seen by many, Sega has since acknowledged the hidden images were probably a bad idea, as fans are still pondering the meaning behind the mysterious phrase 'fun with Sega is infinite'.
