10 Things Sega Wants You To Forget About Sonic The Hedgehog

3. About Princess Elise And Bestiality

Sega Sega

While the game-play, mechanics and general design of Sonic The Hedgehog (2006) were atrocious, there was a certain new character introduced in the game which arguably upset players just as much as the condition of Sonic '06. The story gravitates around Princess Elise the Third, the last remaining member of the royal family that rules over Soleanna. She has a sinister spirit trapped inside of her known as the Iblis or the Flames of Disaster, which is sought out by several of the game's antagonists. Princess Elise became a controversial game character due to the fact she develops feelings for Sonic and kisses him in the game, which is essentially bestiality.

Elise represents everything wrong with the direction of modern sonic titles, there's absolutely no need for ridiculous romantic sub-plots, harrowing origins or love interests in a franchise like Sonic. Sonic the Hedgehog was originally praised for its pace, level design and game-play, it didn't need intense amounts of exposition or intricate plots. Princess Elise felt like the last straw, it signified that Sega had just gone too far and that the franchise had just descended into complete drivel. It's no surprise we haven't seen mention of her since.
