7. A Surge In Blu-Ray Popularity
Though Blu-Ray has already won the format war against HD-DVD, it's still struggling to take primacy over the immensely popular DVD format, and we expect that this will change with the arrival of the eighth-gen consoles. The Xbox 720 will near enough be forced to incorporate Blu-Ray technology into their console - something of an embarrassment given that it's the technology pioneered by one of its direct rivals - and as a result, the format will by default become readily available in the homes of millions more gamers, and consequently, film fans. While it's still going to be an uphill struggle to topple DVD - which, believe it or not, is apparently adequate enough for the common population - this will give Blu-Ray a huge boost, and make it clear to consumers that it's going to be the format to adopt for the future in some form or another.
