10 Things You Didn't Know About Half-Life

7. The Terrifying Gabe Newell No-Clip Room

Gabe Newell IS Valve. Him and the company are absolutely intrinsically linked.

If you don't know him, Gabe's the co-founder of Valve, and the man directly responsible for bringing us Half-Life and founding Steam.

One thing you might not know about Gabe is that he actually appears in Half-Life itself. You'll never see him during regular gameplay, but if you manage to do a complicated no-clipping movement through a specific section, you'll find a room which is completely emblazoned with terrifying pictures of Gabe's face.

The room in question is during Chapter 3 of the game. To access it, you need to enable cheat mode and noclip directly through the floor at a specific point. Once you're in, you'll find tiles upon tiles of Gabe's face staring down at you.

Interestingly, re-releases of the game have the room still in place, but the images of Gabe are all gone. You have to assume that this was a joke by one of the game's developers, and when Gabe found out, he forced them to remove it in updated versions.
