10 Things You Need To Know Before Playing Mass Effect

3. Fight The Andromeda Strain

Mass Effect 2 Arrival
Bioware

Mass Effect Andromeda has a bit of a reputation. Besieged by a litany of hype only to have it blow back in its face, it isn’t easy to find any sort of unbiased outlook on the game. It may make a player wonder if it’s even worth it to give the game a shot.

That dilemma can only be answered on an individual basis, but people who overlook it are missing out on many interesting things the game has to offer. The action scenes that combine gunplay and biotic powers is as tight and refined as it has ever been, and the planet exploration loop begins as a very intriguing prospect, though it never fleshes out fully.

Certainly there are plenty of problems with it: the main villain in particular is uninspired and the main character isn’t as inherently likeable to some. But between the memorable characters, excellent action set pieces, and bold new direction, Andromeda probably isn’t as bad as it is often made to seem.
