10 Things You Never Knew About The Original Legend Of Zelda
8. The Game Inspired Many False Rumours
The Legend of Zelda is known for spawning ridiculous tall-tales. Whether it's obtaining the Triforce in Ocarina of Time or 50 Cent voicing Epona in Twilight Princess, gamers love to speculate about the iconic franchise.
If you think this is a recent thing, gamers have been devising rumours about the series since the original LoZ debuted. There were false claims that you could unlock a Santa Claus suit, find a gun in a secret area, or win the game without picking up your sword.
However, the biggest rumour was that there was a mysterious flute in a hidden dungeon that nobody could find. Weirdly, this piece of gossip was concocted due to a misunderstanding. According to the manual, the Pols Voices enemy "hate loud noises". This is a reference to how the the player could defeat Pols Voices by speaking into the controller's microphone.
However, the microphone was only installed in the Japanese version of the NES.
Since the Western version of the console lacked this function, the enemy's weakness was changed to arrows. But since the developers forgot to change this in the manual, gamers searched for hours looking for a flute or means of increased volume that didn't exist.
