10 Time-Consuming Video Games Nobody Ever Finished
3. Sid Meier's Civilization
Many versions of strategy games have managed to suck hour after hour of player time into their turn-based black hole, but none have ever been as all-consuming as Sid Meier's Civilization series. The epic campaigns take players on journeys of creation and conquering, with success being possible through any number of different approaches.
Civilization lets you approach your world with a freedom of choice that will constantly have you wondering whether you've allocated your time and resources in the best way. You could play a campaign almost identically save for one or two altered choices but may soon find yourself on a totally different path by the end. The possibilities really are tremendous.
Starting a campaign in a Civilization game at any point in the day is a dangerous move. Either you play it smart(ish) and eat up a full Saturday by starting out in the morning, or you try to start off in an evening and hope you can be restrained enough to cease before midnight.
Although we pretty much all know how that would turn out, don't we?
