10 Time-Consuming Video Games Nobody Ever Finished
4. Just Cause 2
While some developers can send their players into black holes of time by packing their game full of collectible items and hidden treasures, Avalanche Studios took a different tact with Just Cause 2. In this sandbox adventure, the activities were more about what you could decimate than they were about what you could uncover.
Just Cause 2 gives you the freedom to explore the militarised island nation of Panau and decks you out with the weapons and gadgets to do basically whatever you want. While there are items to gather if you want to obtain certain trophies or achievements, there are even more acknowledgements for causing as much chaos and destruction as you can.
With challenges asking you destroy at least one of every vehicle type or having you kill a certain number of unfortunate souls with a grappling hook, there's an unprecedented amount of fun to be had in Just Cause 2. Completing narrative missions becomes nothing more than a way to get more weapons, money and ammo, allowing you to go back to ignoring the game's main objectives in favour of its much more entertaining secondary challenges!
