9. Being Stuck In A Reload Animation When An Enemy Appears

When it comes to first-person shooters you never want to be caught without bullets in the magazine. This has led to gamers hitting that reload key so compulsively it is a wonder that keyboards and controllers can bear the strain.

It is inevitable, then, that there will come a time, coming around that unassuming corner, when you will have hit the reload key only to find yourself face-to-face with the gaming equivalent of a King Cobra.

Naturally, the gun in hand will be a shotgun, a weapon universally infamous for its sluggish reload speed and, just as naturally, you will be playing a game that does not allow for a partial reload before firing.

Cue frantic dodging and weaving as you wait for the blinking reload animation to complete. Not that you need have bothered, what with your desperate back-pedaling having come to an ignominious halt as you find yourself snagged on some random bit of set dressing.

And then you die, obligatory blood and gibbets included.
