10 Times Gaming Developers Brutally Messed With Historical Events
3. A Time Travelling Einstein - Command & Conquer: Red Alert
There have been plenty of video games across countless generations that have been influenced by the events of World War II, Call of Duty and Battlefield among them. Some have messed with the timeline in various ways, but few have completely altered the world changing event before it even kicked off. Enter Command & Conquer: Red Alert.
EA's classic real time strategy series begins with theoretical physicist Albert Einstein travelling back to 1924, where he meets a young Adolf Hitler and proceeds to erase him from time completely. Remember that scene in Avengers: End Game where the Ancient One explains to Bruce Banner that messing with time is just really, really bad? Well, despite his best intentions, Einstein instead turns World War II into an even worse World War II.
Long story short, with Germany never gaining an incredibly influential leader, Joseph Stalin instead pushes the Soviet Union forward into an all out battle against Allied forces. What happens next is entirely up to the player's choosing, with alternate endings involving either Stalin's death (which leads into Red Alert 2 and an even bigger Soviet invasion of the United States) or a Soviet victory. Here, Stalin is betrayed by his own people, who fall into line with original C&C villains, the Brotherhood of Nod.
