10 Times In Gaming You Got SCAMMED

4. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5

By 2015, there's no denying that the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater franchise had categorically run out of steam, having burned up all of its original goodwill while failing to reinvent the series with the introduction of desperate skateboard peripherals.

On paper, then, it seemed like Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 might be a return to form, ditching the goofy peripherals and returning to what made the earlier games in the series so popular: their simplicity.

Even with maligned developers Robomodo once again taking the lead, fans hoped that THPS5 might be decent in the very least.

But alas, it was released to devastatingly poor reviews, citing both the ever-presence of bugs and the game's revoltingly dated graphics, which felt at least a generation behind.

It whiffed of a game frantically churned out before Activision's licensing deal with Tony Hawk expired, to try and cash in on fan nostalgia for the earlier, better games in the series.

Yet THPS5 was thankfully a commercial disaster, causing Robomodo to go out of business and Activision to not renew their deal with Hawk.

However, the series did finally return to form in 2020 with Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2, a glorious remaster of the first two games.

Considering how much of a disaster THPS5 was, though, the remasters probably should've been given away free to anyone who paid day-one cash for this glorified beta back in 2015.
