10 Times Metal Gear Solid Was A Total Dick To Fans

3. Nanomachines

Remember how much everyone loved the whole 'Midi-chlorean thing' from Star Wars? How after years and years of preamble and narrative exposition spread across movies, books and video games, George Lucas' deus-ex machina plot device was ushered in only to met with a response of utter hatred? Well Kojima's clearly a fan, as he did exactly the same thing in MGS 4, changing the microscopic nanomachines that were already part of the world in previous titles and making them do everything from staving off cancer to allowing the character of Vamp to remain immortal. They're essentially little God-particles, custom-programmed to serve whatever whimsical character-madness Kojima thought of along the way - which enrages many fans as it makes the rest throw their hands skyward and give up trying to rationalise anything afterwards. Note: The above picture is from Metal Gear Rising, Platinum Games' spin-off that quite rightly pokes fun at just how ludicrous the application of Nanomachines had become to the core MGS lore.
