10 Times Metal Gear Solid Went Too Far

9. A Man Made Of Bees (MGS3)

One of the staples of the Metal Gear Solid series - at least until The Phantom Pain - was setting up a crack unit of baddies that the hero would have to take down as part of their mission.

In the first game it was FOXHOUND, the members of which each had a speciality - sniper, deception, interrogation, psychic-weirdness - and the members of Dead Cell from Metal Gear Solid 2 followed suit - bomber, vampire, lady luck, fake Doctor Octopus.

By the time Metal Gear Solid 3 rolled around, Kojima had obviously used up most of the cool special abilities, and so somehow we ended up with Bee Man. Bee Man AKA The Pain is the first member of the Cobra Unit that Snake goes up against in Snake Eater, and his speciality is that he inexplicably has the ability to control hornets. As you do.

There's some sort of backstory involving him moonlighting as a bee keeper and allowing himself to be stung by them repeatedly until they saw him as being a part of their gang, but it's all a bit silly.

After earning their trust, he takes his bee buddies into battle with him, where he uses them to ruin picnics, and occasionally get trapped in people's houses, annoyingly banging up against an open window but never quite flying out of it for like forty minutes.
