10 Times Rockstar Almost Made You Stop Playing GTA
3. The Snow Storm (GTA IV)
For as much as GTA IV advanced the core engine of the franchise thanks to Rockstar's new tech, giving us a combat model replete with cover options and melee counters, they pushed it a little too far in Snow Storm.
Set to be both a stealthy infiltration and also an "all hell breaks loose, now you need to survive" one-two combo, once the sh*t hit the fan, there were just far too many enemies and vehicles to deal with.
GTA simply isn't built with the right level of animation priority to manage threats coming from multiple angles at once, and being the mazelike structure you were in was confusing already, it was far too easy to get overwhelmed by unseen foes ambush-killing you in seconds.
Should you survive, there was then a five star wanted level to shake off. Yet mess any portion up and you're right back to the very beginning.
