10 Times Video Games Got Weapons Wrong
1. It's Wrong, I Garand-tee It - Medal Of Honor: Rising Sun
If you have every played a World War 2 shooter, you are all too familiar with the 'ping' of the M1 Garand rifle. I bet you just heard it in your own head, too.
For many of us our earliest introductions to the first person shooter genre we know today will have been games such as Medal of Honor in 1999 and Call of Duty in 2003. Both games revolved around the Second World War, specifically the D-Day Invasion, and the American-made semi-automatic M1 Garand is one of the earliest if not the first weapon to feature in these titles.
A plethora of games have gone on to feature the rifle, including multiple more CoD and MoH titles, but unfortunately many have begun incorrectly implementing the weapon. Medal of Honor: Rising Sun, released in 2003, is one such title guilty of this transgression.
In order to compensate for it's fairly fast firing rate and low recoil, many developers decided to disable the ability to reload the M1 Garand mid-clip, and force the player to finish the eight-round en-bloc clip.
However, despite being admittedly quite fiddly, the weapon operator is perfectly capable of loading individual rifle cartridges into the chamber and on top of the existing clip.
