10 Times Video Games Made You Feel Bad (For No Good Reason)
7. Killing A Dog - The Last Of Us 2
Now, it's worth saying from the get go that much of the point of The Last of Us 2 was supposed to be about feeling guilt - whether that resonated with you or just irritated you. The theme of the cycle of violence and of how nobody is truly evil or truly good is an important part of the game, and it's carried off very well throughout most of the game.
Aside from Alice, the sweet German Shepard you kill when you enter the Aquarium as Ellie. You don't know Alice at the time - she's just a random dog that attacks you and that you then off in order to continue hunting down your target Abby.
So when you start playing as Abby, and Alice shows up, it's very clear that this moment is supposed to serve as a reminder that the dog you viciously stabbed to death is, in actual fact, a pretty sweet creature who really just wants to play fetch.
Only thing is, this doesn't quite work like your murder of any of the human characters does. Unlike them, you can't exactly talk things about with Alice, partially because she's a dog, and partially because she's also trying to tear your trachea out.
While we all hate having to kill a pet, you don't have an option in this scenario aside from killing her, and so it's confusing when you're guilt-tripped more for that than killing a pregnant woman.
