10 Titles To Play If You Love Telltale Games
2. Broken Age
Funded through Kickstarter, Broken Age is a point-and-click adventure which Tim Schafer, creator of Grim Fandango, promised would be an instant classic.
Unlike other Kickstarter disasters, Tim Schafer did not lie. With an exceptional balance between its witty and Adventure Time comparable comedy, and its heart-wrenching themes of sacrifice, loneliness and growing up, Broken Age is an ambitious gem which you will never forget about.
Playing as a boy named Shay, you explore a desolate spacecraft designed as a children’s playground. Navigating its uninhabited space is a haunting experience which evokes strong emotions about childhood and leaving its simple world behind.
Vella is the second character you play as. Living in a world above the clouds, she is a strong female who – just like Bioshock Infinite’s Elizabeth – refuses her fate as a sacrificial lamb. Both characters and their individual journeys have harrowing and funny moments, and Schafer manages to breathe new life into the same picture book environments in act 2 by delivering a thought-provoking role reversal.
It is one of the best adventure games of all time. Even if you’re not a Telltale fan, you’ll instantly fall head over heels for its aesthetic, its depressing themes and its multi-layered protagonists.
