10 Tough-As-Nails Strategy Game Missions That Made You Wave The White Flag

9. Salvation - Starcraft II: Legacy Of The Void

When it comes Starcraft II’s toughest challenges ‘All In’ and ‘In Utter Darkness’ may make all of the lists, but ‘Salvation’ is the challenge of both combined.

Your mission is to hold out until the Keystone is fully charged. Facing you are a seemingly never ending swarm of Zerg with the brain-washed Protoss of the Golden Armada in support.

Fortunately the enemy ground forces are funnelled through chokepoints. Unfortunately, the sheer number of Zerg in each wave can easily wear down even the most solid defense and worse, if you’re banking on the tried and true turret wall to bail you out, Zerg Guardians can quickly reduce that wall to rubble.

Then there are the Golden Armada who, being flying units, can bypass your static defences. So, not only must you maintain a mobile reserve but a reserve powerful and versatile enough to see off both ground and air attack.

Add in the inconvenient detail that your off-map support is being continually deactivated one clutch ability after another even as the frequency of attacks are constantly increasing, and you have the classic sweat-inducing, hold-the-line mission that leaves you hanging on by a ragged thread.
