10 Truly Horrible Things Video Games Made You Do

6. Fighting Alongside Sarrano In Bulletstorm

Resident Evil 7
Epic

Bulletstorm is one of the best FPSs you probably didn't play, and its most startling creation is the antagonist General Sarrano - a foul-mouthed, leering, gleefully genocidal maniac who is so unpleasant, the game is driven forward by the player's earnest desire to kill him.

The game's developers knew this, of course, so they gave you the exact opposite.

The hero, Grayson Hunt, trapped on a planet full of bloodthirsty mutants, learns that Sarrano's crashed battleship is primed to extinguish all life on the planet. So the player is forced to fight alongside the odious Sarrano as they forge through underground prison-mines to reach the battleship, enduring his colourfully-worded taunts the whole time.

The player desperately wants to put a bullet in the smirking skull of this potty-mouthed war criminal, but keeping him alive is necessary to escape the enemy-infested planet. Forcing the player to side with Sarrano is the game's cruellest trick. And then Sarrano betrays Grayson in the end anyway, because he's the bad guy and ours is an existence full of pain.
