2016 marks the year one of the industry's greatest developers - Keiji Inafune - had quite the spectacular fall from grace. Where once he was helping kick out landmark titles like Mega Man, Resident Evil 4 and Onimusha in quick succession, now his latest two games have been the disastrous Mighty No. 9, and the maligned ReCore.

However, ReCore has within it some supremely cool ideas, they're just marred by an execution indicative of a creative team stretched thin across multiple projects. Get past its primitive, original Xbox-esque graphics and you'll discover a fantastic game where remixing acquired loot with character abilities helps create a number of in-game actions that have all sorts of uses.

Built like every 3D Zelda you know and love, ReCore some simple-yet-fun lock-on shooting mechanics, a ton of charm in its character and world design, and was written by ex-Halo scribe Joe Staten.
