10 Underrated Recent Video Games That Deserve A Second Chance
7. Mafia III
Yes, I said Mafia III was one of the biggest releases of the recent months back in the intro, but man if it hasn't had it rough in the reviews.
It doesn't seem to matter that Hangar 13 tell one of the best stories we've seen this generation, have perfected open-world combat in a way not seen since Sleeping Dogs, or that the world itself is overflowing with style and individuality. Nope, it's "too repetitive" for many players.
Personally I'll take a series of perfected game mechanics over a ton of half-baked ones that don't matter (case in point: GTA V's 'dock worker' level), and furthermore, Mafia's intense, brutal combat only serves to accentuate its core narrative. You really care about every step you take as Lincoln Clay, both personally and through the wider context of a racially-charged time period.
Mafia III has real heart, passion and intent, and that's something I don't think anyone has been able to say about GTA in about a decade.
