4. Pokkén Tournament
It feels like Pokkén Tournament just came and went, despite it being the "Tekken plus Pokémon" dream match-up fans have talked about for years.
That said, despite the allure for Namco to just re-skin Tekken 6 and pump it out the door, they actually created an entirely new way to play.
Instead of hammering buttons and hoping the best, Pokkén's base gameplay is a rock, paper, scissors-style power triangle of stances, alongside two 'modes' of combat that go from side-on brawling to a wider camera for larger attacks and freedom of movement.
Together it's the most tactile fighter this side of Street Fighter (yes, really), and although you can probably blame the Wii U's continued lack of presence in the cultural console spectrum for its lack of impact in the West, this is one hell of a shiny gem indeed.
