10 Unexpected Video Game Difficulty Spikes That Brutalised Players
2. The North Pole - The Simpsons: Bart Vs. The World
It's quite ironic that The Simpsons both made and subsequently broke my childhood, as while the TV show would go from strength to strength when I was but a lad, the Bart vs. The World video game that I was gifted as a birthday present absolutely made me hate the series.
Also, I had Simpsons wallpaper that gave me nightmares as the eyes followed you around the room, but I digress.
Bart vs. The World was a true horror show of a game that while looking like butter wouldn't melt in its mouth on the surface, would take a Creme Brulee blowtorch to your genitals as soon as you began playing it, especially if you picked The North Pole level.
This absolute horror show tasked you with completing a series of jumps across small platforms over instant-death pits and water hazards. Making matters worse was that, as this was The North Pole, ice coated every surface meaning you'd slide right off of those platforms as soon as you landed on them. FUN RIGHT?
And to top it off there were even a few sections that had bubbles of air for you to bounce off, which would burst if you waited too long, and they had THE WORST collision detection. DOUBLE FUN.
