Skyrim offers quite a few methods of fast travel to the player, but some of them are less obvious than others.

On top of simply choosing the location you want to travel to, you can also hire a carriage and, unknown to most players, take a ferry across the icy Skyrim waters.

Yes, one of the most hidden features of the Dawnguard DLC is the new mode of travel in the form of ferries. The DLC introduces three unique boatmen stationed in the ports of Skyrim's coastal cities who can take you to other docks and jetties for a nominal fee of fifty gold or higher.

The boatmen even serve as a secret fast-travel option to Castle Volkihar. You have to persuade them to do so, and they'll ask for a whopping five hundred gold for their services, but it's still a better way to take Serana there than hauling her across most of the northern provinces of Skyrim.

In gerenal, the boats are fast, effective, and make fast travel slightly more immersive than immediately getting to a place after clicking an icon on your map.
