Mario Bros. is not only one of the oldest Nintendo games, but also a secret contender for the title of the oldest game to implement fast travel.

The secret warp pipes in Mario Bros. are a fairly well-known fact at this point, but their legendary status and historical impact are simply too great not to mention them here.

The warp zone is indeed one of the oldest, if not the oldest, forms of fast travel in a game. The only way to discover it is by jumping past the boundaries of the screen in level 1 and reaching a secret room hiding behind the exit to the end of the level.

The pipes that you find in this secret room allow you to instantly travel to other levels in the game, allowing you to play whichever level you prefer without having to complete the previous ones.

The zone was quite a mystery back when Mario Bros. was first released, and although the secret is pretty well known these days, you can still find people who don't know Mario Bros. invented the concept of warp zones and fast travel.

Yet another thing to add to its long list of accomplishments.
