Regarded by many as one of the greatest games ever made within a series of true prestige, Metal Gear Solid 3 seeks to really test the skill of its players by providing them with difficulties like Extreme and European Extreme.

MGS 3 has a range of difficulties that affect a number of elements in the game, everything from the number of guards and the length of time they remain unconscious to your starting equipment and health. European Extreme (like Extreme and Hard) takes away your active sonar and motion detector, removing a vital tool for knowing when and how to make your move.

The toughest trait of European Extreme however, is that if the player is seen and puts enemies into an alert status, the game ends. Not getting damaged, not getting killed, getting seen. This doesn’t apply to bosses, but Snake can withstand far less damage, vastly limiting the player’s margin for error in combat.

Compound this incredibly tight restriction on the player with all of the other mechanics of MGS 3 like bleeding, battery life, and stamina, and you have one very tough gauntlet indeed.

A lover of video games, Star Wars, and cereal. Thinks Starfox Adventures was really good.
