10 Unresolved Video Game Stories That NEED Answers
7. Alan Wake - Tune In Next Time For...?
When Remedy's Alan Wake ("A.Wake", see?) launched for Xbox 360 and Windows in 2010, it was intended to be the first entry in a series.
Telling the tale of the titular hero (we definitely need more heroes named "Alan"), the game was a supernatural thriller, very much in the mould of Twin Peaks and taking inspiration from Stephen King and even The X-Files, to some extent.
Episodic in nature, Alan Wake intentionally hammed-up the 'Tune in next time' trope, with each chapter concluding in a salacious revelation or leaving us with a shocking unanswered question.
At the game's conclusion, via various convoluted machinations which we simply don't have the word count to cover here, Alan Finds himself stranded in The Dark Place, an alternate dimension akin to the Superman franchise's Phantom Zone, in many ways.
Though DLC was released for Alan Wake which picked up after the events of the main game, it played out within this Dark Place, so did not resolve the huge, glaring "To Be Continued" ending of the main story.
A planned sequel was ultimately scrapped, though the developer has publicly stated his interest in picking Alan's story back up at some point should conditions allow for it.
