10 Unused Villains Who Should Be In The Next Batman Video Game
1. The Court Of Owls
The first villains Batman had to put down in Scott Snyder’s DC New 52 soft-reboot, the Court Of Owls are an organisation who have secretly resided in nests in Gotham’s darkest corners since the 1800s.
Although the way in which they kidnap circus performers at a young age and train them to be assassins - called Talons - is compelling and makes them a formidable foe worthy of replacing the League Of Assassins, the reason they must be the main threat in the next Batman game is for its open world.
Since Arkham City, Gotham has been a soulless sandbox with no other purpose than to house Riddler trophies and comic book references. The next game must have the city’s streets and buildings populated with innocent civilians, and it should replicate the City Of Owls’ storyline by having Bruce question whether his home belongs to him or the birds, only to realise it actually belongs to all its inhabitants from the past and present.
Snyder ruined the narrative with his contrived Romulus and Remus theme, along with his insistence on making everybody’s upbringing and tragedy relate to the Court Of Owls, but what he did better than any other Batman writer, was make Gotham feel alive. Through his complex portrayal of its and the Waynes’ history, this is something Warner Bros. could reproduce to prevent the city from - once again - feeling empty and recycled.
