3. Destiny (PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One - 2014)
Easily one of the most ambitious and anticipated titles of the next 12 months, Destiny comes from Halo developers Bungie, and just might redefine the way we play FPS games. Destiny unfolds in an always-online open-world setting, though is
not strictly an MMO; rather, players will share the world with a small number of other players, achieved through the game's matchmaking system. The aim is to make this world appear "alive", whereby it constantly changes even when players are not online, yet through mobile phone alerts, they can still be kept up to speed on when a new quest has been added or if a friend needs help. Destiny will surely either be a masterpiece or an abject failure, but given Bungie's track record to date, it's easy to think that they are just going to blow CoD out of the water, with a more advanced, addictive, stunning, inventive game, which will truly demonstrate how rote these annualised military shooters can be (though not always are).
