4. Tom Clancy's Rainbow 6: Patriots (PC, PS4, Xbox One - 2014)
The Rainbow 6 series has always been popular, even if it has been totally superseded by the likes of CoD and Battlefield in recent years, yet there's a particular level of curiosity surrounding the latest game, Patriots, given its peculiar development cycle to date. Originally shown off in November of 2011 with a "proof of concept" trailer, various members of the developmental team were summarily dismissed several months later, pre-ordered were cancelled, and it was only revealed at this year's E3 that the game
was still in development, but that it was now being targeted for release on next-gen platforms, rather smartly. Though this shaky development schedule doesn't exactly scream volumes about Ubisoft's confidence in the product, it's hard to deny the reliability of the Rainbow 6 brand as it has evolved over the years. The teaser trailer shown two years ago looked fantastic (and has dated fairly well, even if it was just a rendering), and given that it will have been 6 years since the release of the last game by the time Patriots comes out, hopefully it will remind of us everything we love about the series. A refined multiplayer offering is an absolute must if it wants to compete with CoD.
