10 Upcoming Video Game Remakes That Could Be Better Than The Original
These remakes just might better the original.
The discourse surrounding video game remakes is certainly contentious, with many feeling that there are simply too many of them, that they're ultimately eating up precious developer time that could be spent working on something new instead.
But on the flip-side, remakes are a great way to ensure a game is not only preserved but made accessible for a whole new generation, who might struggle with dated mechanics or simply have no hardware means to play the original version.
This is all to say, remakes are a complicated subject and certainly not created equal.
And while few remakes manage to legitimately surpass the achievements of the original, every so often it does happen.
With that in mind, these are the upcoming video game remakes which just might have what it takes to outdo what came before.
Perhaps the pedigree of the dev team speaks for itself, the early footage looks that damn good, or the game has just been so obscenely overdue a remake that the probability of it surpassing the original is high.
We'll have to wait and see as ever of course, but these remakes could be utter all-timers...
10. Silent Hill
For everyone lamenting that Konami remade Silent Hill 2 while seemingly ignoring the original, their prayers were answered with the recent confirmation that Bloober Team - who developed the surprisingly excellent Silent Hill 2 remake - are now also remaking the first game.
As brilliant as the original game is, it's clear that Silent Hill would benefit from over 25 years of progress in games development.
For one, the original's controls and camera are extremely stiff and clunky by modern standards, and even huge fans of the game will concede that the imprecise combat can be frustrating at times.
And of course, modern gaming tech can make the original's suffocatingly thick atmosphere feel even more palpable through cutting-edge visuals and sound design.
Bloober proved with Silent Hill 2 that they could do justice to the series' stone cold masterpiece, and so there's little doubt they'll pull off the same feat with the game that started it all.
