10 Upcoming Video Games That Could Change Things Forever

3. Star Citizen

Star Citizen Star Citizen is a game of almost insane ambition, a space combat simulator that will see galaxies realized and will allow budding space pilots to become pirates, traders, intergalactic-police or mercenaries in a vast online world. While older titles like EVE Online can boast the same thing, Star Citizen looks to set itself apart with it's real-time space combat that's leagues apart from the ponderous hot-bars of EVE. Plans are even afoot to expand its horizons to eventually include planetary battles, where you'll leave your spacecraft to engage in combat on foot as the game switches to a first person shooter. On top of the gigantic area of space to explore, a dedicated single-player campaign set in the game's universe has already been announced, where you'll take on the role of a soldier in 'Squadron 42'. Billed as the spiritual successor to the Wing Commander series, Squadron 42 should appeal to those of us who don't like our space invaded by other actual people. Perhaps the most revolutionary aspect of Star Citizen is that it has been funded entirely without a publisher, with funds raised through Kickstarter and the Roberts Space Industry website. Featuring a quite unique payment model space-faring enthusiasts can lay down sums of money in exchange for fancy-looking and better performing ships and insurance policies. So far Star Citizen has garnered a record-smashing $27 million over a year before it's due to be released. If Star Citizen can deliver on its ambition, we could be looking at the model for the future of PC gaming.
