10 Upcoming Video Games That Are Already Doomed

9. Dune: Awakening

The world of Frank Herbert's sci-fi opus Dune seems like the perfect fit for the MMORPG treatment, especially with the IP enjoying greater popularity than ever due to Denis Villeneuve's two recent blockbuster movie adaptations.

But as we all know by now, the MMO space is an incredibly tricky one to crack, and little we've seen so far suggests that developer Funcom - best known for a glut of so-so MMOs such as Conan Exiles, Age of Conan, Anarchy Online, and The Secret World - has the chops to make Dune: Awakening a mega-hit.

Between the fairly cheap-looking visuals and apparent emphasis on combat over exploring the world of Arrakis, it's tough not to feel that a property as rich as Dune deserves so, so much better.

On the plus side, Funcom do at least have a history of supporting their MMOs long-term, so even if it's not very good, it's probably not being shut down within a year.

For the great many who just wanted a kick-ass single-player AAA Dune game, though, it's an undeniably underwhelming project all the same.
