10 Upcoming Video Games That Have Already Pissed Fans Off
2. The $70 Asking Price - The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom looks absolutely fantastic, but alongside its release date recently being confirmed for May 12th, Nintendo also revealed that the game would be the first AAA Nintendo title to cost a whopping $70 - or £60 for UK players.
While Sony began raising their prices to $70 starting with the current gaming generation in 2020, and Microsoft are imminently due to start doing so, Nintendo held firm with a more competitive price point for their new releases, which given the comparatively under-powered nature of the Nintendo Switch absolutely made sense.
And so the decision to charge so much for the new Zelda rubbed a lot of fans the wrong way, especially given the performance issues which many recent Switch games have had due to the ageing hardware, and the likelihood that Tears of the Kingdom won't be entirely free of technical compromises.
For $70 people understandably expect a basically faultless, silky smooth experience, and so it's tough not to view Nintendo's price uplift as greedy.
Though Nintendo responded to the significant backlash by insisting that $70 wasn't a base price for all their future games, it's evident that they're basically testing the waters to see what they can get away with.
If Tears of the Kingdom sells like hotcakes - as it surely will - expect every major AAA Nintendo game from this point on to cost the same.
