10 Upcoming Video Games You Didn't Realise Got Cancelled
7. Spider-Man: The Great Web
After the success of Spider-Man 2, Insomniac made plans to expand the web-slinging saga even further.
In March 2024, a trailer was leaked of a five-player co-op called Spider-Man: The Great Web. The multiplayer spin-off had players plucking multiple Spider-People from different realities to combat the Sinister Six.
The teaser highlighted classic Spider-heroes, including Scarlet Spider, Spider-Gwen, Spider-Man 2099, and Silk. Spidey's gang would travel across the Spider-Verse, showcasing different versions of iconic heroes and villains.
Now, since The Great Web is on this list, it goes without saying this game got the boot. But the weird thing about this Spider-spinoff is that it was cancelled... after the trailer got leaked. Annoyingly, many Spider-fans thought this clip confirmed The Great Web was on the way, unaware the project was already dead.
Insomniac Games have given no official reason why The Great Web was dropped, though it's possible they wanted to prioritise single-player games over live service titles, similar to how Naughty Dog annulled The Last Of Us Online.
Thousands of fans have signed a petition, hoping Insomniac reverses this decision. But at this moment, all signs indicate this version of Spider has spun his last web.
