The original Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee from 1997 is considered a cult classic by many platformer enthusiasts. The remake, Oddworld: New ’n’ Tasty, which was released in 2014, has also gathered mostly positive reviews, although it has also been criticized as devoid of the spirit of the original game.

Oddworld: Soulstorm, which so far has mainly flown under the radar, is supposed to both honor the original game and introduce some much needed innovation.

Players can expect some entirely new mechanics, such as crafting various items. Another important aspect, both from gameplay and storyline perspective, is Mudokon managment. Abe will now be able to lead freed the Mudokons, which adds a strategic element to the game. Those changes are supposed to provide a much needed breath of fresh air, while not straying too far away from what worked in the first place.

Sadly, there's still long way to go before the players will be able to see firsthand if Oddworld: Soulstorm manages to capture the magic of the original. It's release can be expected sometime in 2020 on PC and most likely also consoles.
