When talking abut video game betrayals, there are so many who would be reminded of one game, and one man. Lieutenant General Shepherd is a major player in the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 campaign, serving as the commanding officer in 'Operation Kingfish'.

The task was to find and apprehend Vladimir Makarov, and it's clear Shepherd was willing to do whatever it took not only to rid the world of ultranationalist terrorist, but to be seen as the hero who finally put the threat to an end.

Shepherd is a man who has his own motivations alongside his allegiance to the US Military, and a shocking twist that saw him murder Roach and leave the player for dead confirmed that he was truly willing to do anything to be seen as the hero.

Shepherd's turn to the dark side was something that most didn't see coming, as the brotherhood that was formed in Task Force 141 felt so very tight. The betrayal was one that hurt fans, which speaks volumes about the quality of the storytelling. Shepherd is a character worth loathing, and the betrayal was so incredibly well handled.
