The necromorphs are very well-known beasts by now. The main antagonists of the Dead Space franchise, these big old baddies have been making people uneasy since their first appearance in 2008.

It’s hard to think that anybody would see these guys and come to the conclusion that they are at the next stage of evolution, especially given that they are literal dead bodies and that really isn’t how evolution works. Despite this, these mutated corpses are said by some to be the markers of ‘humanity’s ascension’ - spikes, twisted limbs and all.

There are a few different kinds of necromorph encountered throughout the Dead Space but regardless of subspecies, the necromorphs all have certain features in common including their mutilated, corpse-like appearance.

Some of the ugliest looking necromorphs are the slashers, a common type formed of one simple human body. Out of their arms or shoulder blades, sharp pieces of bone protrude to function like scythes, and their feet are flayed and splayed to the point that they more closely resemble chicken stompers. It’s hard to believe really that they were ever human.
