10 Video Game Bosses Beaten By Their Own Arenas

2. Bowser (Super Mario 64)

Bowser might have gained a whole new dimension when Mario bounded onto the N64, but he didn't use it for any additional brain cells, as he continued to make life extra-easy for his least favourite plumber.

When Mario first runs across Bowser during his descent into the Dark World, he dispatches his dinosoid opponent by swinging him right into one of the several bombs handily left scattered around the arena's perimeter.

Being beaten that way once would be fair enough; perhaps Bowser was expecting Mario to stupidly wander into the mines himself, as he had so many Spinies back in 2D land. But big Bowser must have been on the magic 1-up mushrooms when he repeated the trick not once, but twice, each time literally being caught by the tail before eating a face full of landmine.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
