10 Video Game Bosses That Learned From Their Mistakes

1. King Hippo - Punch-out!

Alien Isolation
Nintendo

One of the best parts of Punch-Out! for the Wii is that each contender in the game comes back to fight you after you defeat them and become the new boxing champion. The second time around, the bosses are significantly more difficult, as they learn from their defeat and add a new gimmick to make up for their mistakes.

Out of all of the bosses in the game, King Hippo has to take the cake for being the most creative with the solution to his problem. The first time you fight him, Little Mac can easily defeat him by punching him in the weak spot on his belly.

After his devastating defeat, King Hippo realizes that he needs to find a way to cover up the spot. In the cutscene preceding his second fight with Mac, the half-man, half-hippo is seen wandering around the city looking for a good shield for his belly. He's torn between a frying pan and a strainer, but eventually settles on taping a full-size manhole cover to his stomach!

Now that's some serious protection!
