10 Video Game Bosses You DON'T Want To Beat
6. All Of The Bosses - NieR Gestalt/Replicant
I know, I know, it's cheating, but who's going to stop me? You, the guy with the knife? Probably.
I hate it when people making lists do the "everything in X game" thing too, but NiER Gestalt/Replicant genuinely is one of those games that really flips on its head after you've finished it - all of your achievements get thrown into question.
As either the ultra-gruff Gears of War-lookin' father or mega-weeby JRPG brother (different regions got different protagonists based on what sells better, there) of a rather sick little girl named Yonah, NiER Gestalt/Replicant thrusts you into a hauntingly otherworldly adventure to seek out a Lunar Tear - an item that can grant wishes.
Presumably, NiER would wish for a cure, or the Mighty Max Skull Mountain playset - both would be equally excellent.
However, standing in his way are the Shades, dark creatures of mysterious origin and motivation. Carving through them all like a chainsaw through my neighbour's hedge BECAUSE HE REFUSES TO DO IT HIMSELF, NiER is an unstoppable killer in his quest to save his beloved Yonah.
However, on a second playthrough you discover the chilling truth - the Shades are as human as NiER himself, and their babbled, indecipherable language is revealed to have been their screams of terror as they beg him to stop his onslaught. NiER, ostensibly, has been under a spell the entire time.
After you've learned this reality, no reward seems fitting after slaughtering the Shades. Not even the Mighty Max Storms Dragons Island playset. And that's like, the worst one.
