10 Video Game Characters Fans LOVE (That You Never See)
4. Atlas - BioShock
Atlas is the mysterious leader of the revolution in Rapture that helps your character throughout the main campaign of BioShock. Although he does make an appearance in the game’s DLC, in the original main campaign, he only interacts with you through voice messages and audio notes, never showing up in person.
What makes Atlas such a memorable character, even when he’s just a voice recording, is the role he takes in the story. He acts as your ally and serves as a guide through the eerie city of Rapture, until - spoiler alert - he turns out to be the main villain, Frank Fontaine, trying to manipulate your character.
The fact you never see Atlas throughout the story helps maintain a sense of mystery that makes the payoff of the reveal at the end that much better. Without being able to meet face-to-face with him, you either have to blindly trust him or wonder if there’s more to him than that suave hair and down-to-earth attitude.
There’s a reason BioShock’s story is considered so great, and a large part of it can be attributed to Atlas’s invisible yet lovable presence.
