10 Video Game Characters That Were Created For The Most Shocking Reasons
2. Kazooie From Banjo-Kazooie Was A Result Of A Jumping Mechanic
Banjo and Kazooie are about as iconic as iconic duos can get. The two characters hold a special place in many people's hearts, and no one could really think of one without including the other.
This is why it might come off as a shock to you that when their debut game was still in the works, Kazooie was not in the picture at all. In RareWare's original idea, Banjo was meant to be a standalone protagonist, and the story would revolve only around him. The weirdest part is that the idea of adding another character into the mix didn't really come up until the game's creators began discussing the logical implications of some of Banjo's moves.
According to the interviews with Rareware's devs, Kazooie was added because they found the idea of a cartoon bear being capable of double jumping a little too outlandish. They decided to give Banjo a flying sidekick so that he could reach higher places in a more sensible manner.
To think that if the creators of a franchise with witches and talking skulls hadn't been so upset about this one silly concept, we might not have gotten Kazooie and her gloriously sassy banter.
